Jeff Brisbin – Interview – Thanks for Asking – by Liam Sweeny.
RRX: Who are you? Not, like, philosophically, but you know, who are the members of the band, who plays what? Describe yourself in one sentence (it can be a long sentence.)
JB: I’m Jeff Brisbin … I’m a solo performing songwriter, play guitar, sing and am teaching myself a bit of piano, and have a very busy schedule averaging 250+ gigs per year for the past dozen years, via “THE NEVERENDING TOUR”.
RRX: Do you have anything out right now that people can enjoy, and if so, what’s the best way for them to get it?
JB: I have three albums of original songs available digitally on Spotify, Apple 🍏 Music, Amazon… all of the streaming platforms, or you go to my website www.jeffbrisbin.com/music. I’m also on YouTube.
RRX: Part of learning to be a musician is to fall in love with a song, an album, and hammer away at your instrument until you can play that whole thing. What was that song for you? Was there a hardest part?
JB: When I was little, I would dream about guitars in a mythical music store. I’ve been “making up songs since I was 5 or 6 years old and I drove my father crazy wanting to know where the songs I would hear came from.
“Here, There and Everywhere“ was an early favorite … the Beatles, Stones … “Rubber Soul, Revolver” were quantum leaps from where the Beatles began, every album was a progression. Mastering chord changes, and singing at the same time was a struggle in the beginning for sure, site fingers !!!
RRX: In the musical world, there are many supporting players. Recording engineers, sound techs, cover art designers. Who are three people that support the craft that you would like to shine a spotlight at?
JB: I did my first album with Vince Arpey of ARP Studios, my second and third with Dave Maswick and I’m currently working with Joel Moss.
RRX: I know when pitching it helps to tell someone it’s “this meets that.” So let’s try that with you. If you had to give me two bands that meet each other in your sound, what are those bands? More than two bands?
JB: I would think that my original music is the sum of all that came before me, all of that which I embraced listening to it. Certainly there’s Beatles, Crowded House … even some Dylan.
RRX: Like songs, every artist has a unique feeling about their first show. What was your first show like? Was it your best show? If not, what was your best show like?
JB: Wow … first actual gig was at Gaffney’s in Saratoga … played there over 250 times through the years. I started playing at open mics line many of us do so I wasn’t really nervous. My best show was at the venerable Caffe Lena… played all Originals in a storyteller way. I had a great show at the Bearsville Theatre a couple of years ago that was off the charts too.
RRX: How can people keep up with you? What’s coming up, soon or eventually?
JB: Surely on my Website …
www.jeffbrisbin.com, or Facebook, Instagram.
I play 4-7 gigs a week, so stop out and say hello.
I’m working on my 4th Album and I’ll be releasing a new Single with Chris Wienk on WEXT in the next few Weeks, and a new album before the end of 2024.
